VILLAGERS WHO TURN VOLCANIC HEAT INTO WATER

The holy mountains of Suswa

As he opened shutter of village hut, bright morning sunlight suddenly flooded his hut. A cool fresh breeze swept in and caressed his face soothingly. From a distant, he could hear a bustle of activity within the homestead.

He could also hear the mooing of cattle and bleating of sheep not far from the homestead. But what captivated him most was the cool natural environment that was created by shrub trees that grew between the houses and the mountains. My grandpa rattles in his eloquent voice its full of fire on this mountain. ‘’EKIMA NATII ENGOP”. As he points down hill on the mountain mountain full of historic love of the Maasai. This mountain speaks to me as it lays down in an architectural posture Plain plateaued field like that of football field extended in between this mountain its full of savannah grass which is long brown thorny looks like someone planted them clearly on this red volcanic soil. More than four villages of the Maasai live right here like babies who are breastfed by their mother Mt. Suswa. Its not just an ordinary mountain or better yet just plain but a place full of life and fire. Yes, it’s a volcanic mountain. Being born in a village, my lifestyle was normal that is waking up, taking tea then I leave to take care of herds. In Karuka village water was something that required one to engage in strenuous exercise, that is one had to walk twenty kilometers or even more. Aaaah, sometimes it takes a painful experience to make us change our ways but the truth the one who says necessity is mother of innovation should have be given Nobel prize but I don’t know if she or he was given. Now the problem of water is contentious that when there is no water there is no live so they community have no food, they have to move to find safety elsewhere. But due economic and environmental forces there is no place to go but just to live and find a solution. Many organizations tried to drill water but they only found fire. Vapor air ‘’PAKAI” This amazing villagers realize that due to pressure amounted by heat underground and water in between rocks its caused steam air which evaporated between rocks. But since it was hot it was hard to drink. Innovation this villager realized if you use non-conductor it can condense water. So this villager used pipes donated to them and they bend them in order to condense steam and finally they had water. The drops of water can have collected during night since its low temperatures and evaporation is low. Every morning was full of hope that dream of getting was finally here. Although they face a lot challenges of doing this in large scale but we are society full of abundance of happiness that little we get is shared. This just proven concept that hope is great thing in building dreams. Although other villages don’t have this steam but they have hope that one day the mamas would not walk twenty kilometers with both emotional and .physical scars but realized their dream of water is here in the eyes.
